EMSI at the 2003 MESILLA CHEMISTRY WORKSHOP
Attendees at a small workshop on "Environmental Chemistry at Interfaces" held February 9 - 12, 2003, in Mesilla, New Mexico.
The annual Mesilla Workshops were begun in 1997 and are managed by a scientific board led by Prof. Bill Hase, Wayne State University. The workshops have the mission of fostering interactions between scientists with broad and complementary research interests who would normally not have the opportunity to meet. This format facilitates the exchanges and new interactions that can lead to important advances in science.
In this spirit, the 2003 Mesilla Workshop brought together workers in heterogeneous chemistry in the atmosphere, in environmental processes on land (e.g. mineral chemistry and corrosion), and in surface processes for environmental enhancement (e.g. environmental catalysis and fuel cells). The underlying theme of this multi-disciplinary workshop was new advances made possible by molecular-level understanding of processes at surfaces, and the participants were chosen to represent the cutting edge of both experimental and computational research in these areas.
